11 Ways to Cut Down On Gasoline Cost

Gas prices seem to go up and down then back up!! It is mind boggling . I have put together a post that I thought you might be interested in. If you have any other ideas on how to save money on fuel please leave a comment.

  1. Tires– Keep your tires inflated properly. Under inflated tires waste fuel and will also wear out the tread (leading to money loss on tire replacement)
  2. Your car may need a check-up– A well-tuned engine burns less gas.Get regular tuneups and follow through with routine maintenance.
  3. Clean out your trunk-for every 250 poinds your engine hauls, the car loses about one mile per gallon in fuel economy.
  4. Don’t overfill– Why waste gas? If you spill just a little every time you fill up, well every little bit counts!!
  5. Pay cash-Some gas stations and stores charge extra for using credit cards. Watch out for these hidden charges!
  6. Watch your driving habits-Don’t make sudden stops or fast starts. This just overexerts your engine and burns extra fuel.  Engine revving is a good fuel waster also!
  7. Slow down!– You know your momma always told you to slow down. Well the faster you drive , the more gas you use. Driving at 55 mph rather than 65 mph can improve your fuel economy by two miles per gallon.
  8. Avoid long warm-ups–  Even in the cold winter your car only needs to warm up for a minute or two before it is ready to go. Anything more that this will burn expensive fuel.
  9. Combine Errands– Boy do I really do this one. I live 20 minutes from a town that offers anything. I never head to town without having multiple reasons. I do the shopping on the same day I schedule Dr. Appt. You will save time and money doing this.
  10. Buy a fuel-efficient car– When you are in search of a car be mindful of the gas mileage the car get.
  11. Use air conditioning wisely–  Be smart with the air conditioning. On the highway, closed windows decrease resistance, so run the air conditioner. But in stop-and-go traffic, shutting off the air conditioning and opening the windows can lighten your fuel use. Air conditioning can lower your fuel economy by 10 to 20 percent!
